A post on the Army Rumour Service forum caught UK Shooting News’ eye this morning, following the controversy over British shooting loudmouth Mike Yardley and the EU gun ban plan.
Posted by an ARRSEr using the forum handle ‘ugly’, who said he had emailed Gun Mart threatening to withdraw his firm’s advertising unless Yardley’s contract was terminated, his post contained what seems to be an email from Gun Mart’s advertising chief:
Good Morning Mr Ugly
We can understand your stance and would like to point out that Michael Yardley is not a member of our staff. He is a freelance writer that in the past submitted articles to us , and to many other shooting titles.
All of the writers for Gun Mart Magazine are freelance and we do not necessarily support the views of any of our contributors made outside of the pages of the magazine; plus we haven’t published articles from Michael for some considerable time now, and have no plans to do so in the foreseeable future.
We do hope that you understand and continue to enjoy Gun Mart in the future.
“Have no plans” to publish anything from Yardley seems pretty conclusive about his future work prospects with Gun Mart, Shooting Sports and What Gun magazines (all of which are owned by the same firm) if this is true.
Do any UKSN readers have evidence of Yardley losing work as a result of his outbursts? Let us know in the comments below or contact us by other means.
