Finland’s government may demand an exemption from the upcoming EU semi-automatic firearm ban, according to media reports.
“We have tens of thousands of reservists who practice national defence training voluntarily. That is part of our whole national defence and it must be protected,” Minister of the Interior Petteri Orpo said, as reported by pro-EU website Euractiv.
So far reaction to the EU gun ban appears to have gone fairly quiet, although pro-shooting website all4shooters is interpreting David Cameron’s garbled comments from Sunday as an attack on all semi-automatic firearms.
Meanwhile, Conservative MEP Vicky Ford has published a video discussing the EU gun ban plan. She is chair of the internal market and consumer protection committee, which is reviewing the gun ban proposal at present.
