Pro-shooting MP in trouble over expenses claims

11 Jan 2016 – An MP is under investigation by Parliament’s expenses watchdog after claiming more than a quarter of a million pounds in the last financial year.

Jim Shannon, Democratic Unionist Party MP for Strangford, Northern Ireland, is under the spotlight of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSO) for claiming £264,500 in mileage and subsistence allowances last year, according to political blog Guido Fawkes.

Shannon has been a leading MP when it comes to shooting issues, repeatedly questioning the government on topics ranging from seizure of illegal firearms to the EU gun ban and 10 year certificates.

While most of Shannon’s questions were ignored – some on the orders of secretive police lobbying outfit NABIS – it won’t hurt those in power at the police and the Home Office to have this particular thorn removed from their sides.
