7 Feb 2016 – The Home Office quietly sneaked out an update to the criteria for approval of rifle and muzzle loading pistol clubs five days ago.
UK Shooting News has read the updated criteria (available on the GOV.UK website) and it seems the only major changes is that approvals must be submitted to the police force for the area where the secretary lives, rather than in the area where the club’s main ranges are.
Other changes include UKPSA being listed as a national governing body to contact for advice, and a clarification that ‘guest members’ includes visiting members of other Home Office approved clubs – but they are not restricted to shooting only on guest days.
The last version of the criteria was updated in 2012. UKSN reminds readers that the club approval criteria are tertiary legislation issued by the Secretary of State, under section 15(3) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988.
