Updated, 23 Feb 2016 – An unfortunate German journalist has been shot at a press conference called to announce the introduction of a new service pistol.
The journalist, an editor with the Nordsee-Zeitung newspaper, was “unintentionally” shot in the thigh by a police officer while viewing a new service pistol being rolled out in Bremerhaven, according to Der Spiegel.
The 44-yr-old reporter is “doing well under the circumstances”, a police spokesman told the magazine.
The Hamburger Morgenpost quoted local police chief Harry Götze as saying “this should not happen”. It appears the bullet passed cleanly through the reporter’s leg and his life is not thought to be in danger.
Police are said to be considering whether to take legal action against their employees who were involved in the negligent discharge.
