West Midlands Police: ‘There is no place in society for guns and ammo’

23 March 2016 – A routine West Midlands Police press release issued today features an employee saying “the purpose of [guns] are only to kill or cause harm”.

The press release itself is about a drug dealer found guilty of a variety of firearms charges, amongst other things.

His stash of illegally-held items included a 9mm pistol, an 8mm pistol (possibly a blank firer), two boxes of .243″ Winchester rifle ammunition, a number of 8mm blanks and a box of live .38 Special rounds.

UK Shooting News can’t help but wonder whether leaving him alone to the inevitable result of putting .38Spl into a blank firer would have been a better outcome for the public interest.

However, the press release features a Detective Constable Peter Miller, from the force’s CID, saying: “We take all investigations involving firearms extremely seriously. There is no place in society for guns and ammunition, the purpose of which are only to kill or cause harm.”

Hopefully an adult will have a word with Miller and encourage him to withdraw his stupid remarks.
